Alfa Romeo has been producing high-performance cars in Italy since 1910 but didn’t enter the U.S. market until 1954 with the debut of the Giulietta. The small, sporty car quickly captured American attention, and an emphasis on handling solidified the marque as a driver’s brand. Two-door Sprint coupes and Spider convertibles appeared alongside Berlina sedans until the 1980s, at which point flagging sales halted Alfa’s stateside presence. Alfa Romeo more recently returned to the U.S with a small run of 8Cs, the 4C sports car, the Giulia sedan, and the Stelvio SUV. Today’s classic car collectors appreciate the 8C and 6C models from the 1930s, which are some of the most important and valuable cars ever created, as well as the beautiful designs of the 1950s and 1960s. The plentiful Alfa Romeo Spider, manufactured from the 1960s through the 1990s, remains one of the most affordable ways to enjoy open-air Italian motoring.
