Model overview
Model description
Buick left well enough alone this year and the 1967 Riviera looked much like 1966 other than that the grille had a bold central horizontal bar, rocker moldings were changed and the rear bumper now encapsulated the taillights for a much crisper effect. The new Cadillac Eldorado was introduced this year and both it and the Toronado were front-wheel drive, which would make the rear-drive Riviera the odd man out in the 1970s.
The 425 cid V-8 was boosted to 430 cid and horsepower rose to 360 bhp – the same as the dual 4-barrel Super Wildcat engine the year before. The new engine corrected a number of weaknesses from the old one and had angled rocker arms. It would grow into the 455 V-8 later.
Sales slipped slightly to 42,799 Rivieras, of which 4,837 were Gran Sport models. Though Buick’s total production for the year dropped to 573,866, Oldsmobile’s sales slipped too, so Buick regained fifth place nationally.
The Gran Sport option now cost only $140 and included Strato bucket seats, heavy duty suspension, a limited-slip, ribbed alloy engine rocker covers, chrome air cleaner and GS lettering on the fenders. Performance stayed the same, which meant 0-60 in 7.7 seconds and a quarter-mile in 15.9 seconds at 87 mph.
Other 1967 Buick Rivera options included air conditioning, power windows, power front disc brakes, four- and six-way power seats, tilt steering column, tinted glass, cruise control, cornering lights, wire wheel covers, 5-spoke chrome wheels and an automatic trunk release.
Standard Riviera equipment included the 3-speed Super Turbine transmission, dual exhaust, power steering, power brakes, two-speed electric wipers with washers, safety buzzers and warning lights, tilt steering wheel, upper and lower dash safety pads, console gear selector, walnut paneling on the dash and full carpeting.
Buick offered 15 exterior colors for the 1967 Riviera, including Regal Black, Riviera Turquoise, Arctic White, Sapphire Blue, Blue Mist, Gold Mist, Green Mist, Verde Green, Shadow Turquoise, Platinum Mist, Riviera Plum, Riviera Charcoal, Riviera Fawn, Riviera Red, and Riviera Gold.
